What time is Derry Girls on TV tonight and how many episodes are in season 3?

Award-winning comedy Derry Girls has proved a big hit with Channel 4 viewers. In big news for fans, it's returning for its third and final season tonight (April 12).

The family-centred comedy was created by acclaimed writer Lisa McGee and is based on some of her own experiences. First airing in 2018, it swiftly became a fan-favourite, collecting some prestigious awards and being nominated for two BAFTAs in 2019 and 2020.

With the backdrop of the political unrest that was occurring at the time, the show is set in Northern Ireland in the 1990s. While season one and two saw the gang navigate their teens, school, parties, and love interests during The Troubles, season three will see the hope of a potential resolution begin to surface as the group continue to make their slow journey towards adulthood.

The show will once again star Saoirse-Monica Jackson (Erin), Louisa Harland (Orla), Nicola Coughlan (Clare), Jamie-Lee O'Donnell (Michelle) and Dylan Llewellyn (James). It is entirely set and made in Northern Ireland.

How many episodes are in season 3 of Derry Girls?

It is expected that series three will comprise of six episodes, like the previous two seasons. While there were initially conflicting reports of what was in store for the show, sadly, it has been confirmed that season three will be Derry Girls' final outing.

Writer Lisa McGee tweeted today, "The beginning of the end! The 1st episode of our last ever run starts tonight at 9.15 on the Inimitable Channel 4. It's called 'The Night Before.' I hope you like it…"
