Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko will go at it for a third time at UFC 306. This women’s flyweight championship bout scheduled for five rounds is taking place Saturday, Sept. 14 at Sphere in Las Vegas, with UFC CEO Dana White hyping up Noche UFC as a “love letter to the Mexican people” in celebration of Mexican Independence Day.
Grasso (16-3-1 MMA, 8-3-1 UFC) vs. Shevchenko (23-4-1 MMA, 12-3-1 UFC) is the first women’s trilogy in the history of the UFC. Their first encounter took place in March 2023, with Grasso dethroning Shevchenko as champion by submitting her in the fourth round for an all-time upset. The shocking result was named 2023 Upset of the Year by MMA Junkie.
Six months later, Grasso and Shevchenko headlined the inaugural Noche UFC event where the two women fought to a split draw. In the buildup to their trilogy, Grasso and Shevchenko served as opposing coaches on “The Ultimate Fighter.”
