Millions of Brits are expected to join in the celebrations over the four-day Bank Holiday weekend for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The milestone marks the first time that a British monarch has lasted for 70 years on the throne.
To commemorate the occasion, we’ve all been given an extra Bank Holiday. The Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend starts on Thursday June 2 - which is a rearranged late May Bank Holiday - with the additional Bank Holiday on Friday June 3.
Best of all, pubs in England and Wales have been given special dispensation to open for longer over the Bank Holiday weekend. But what times will pubs be closing during the Platinum Jubilee festivities?
What time do pubs close for the Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday?
From Thursday June 2 to Saturday June 4 inclusive, pubs in England and Wales will be permitted to open for an extra two hours.
This means that rather than having to close at 11pm, they’ll be able to remain open and serving until 1am.
The order to extend opening hours for pubs, clubs and bars during the Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend was passed in April.
Pubs in some parts of Scotland will also be allowed to open until 1am, though this will depend on local authority rules.
Pubs have strongly welcomed the decision to permit them to trade for longer hours over the four-day Bank Holiday weekend. The move comes after a difficult couple of years for the hospitality industry, with pubs, bars, clubs and restaurants forced to close for extended periods by the coronavirus pandemic.
Thousands of events will take place across the UK to mark the Platinum Jubilee. Organisers estimate that around 10 million people will attend street parties throughout the country, while the festivities at Buckingham Palace will include the Platinum Party at the Palace pop concert.
