Thomas Tuchel has previously suggested that Roman Abramovich has a ‘genuine’ love and interest in football amid his decision to step back from the day-to-day operations at Chelsea.
The Russian owner released a short statement on Saturday afternoon confirming his intentions to relinquish the care and stewardship of the club over the Trustees of the Chelsea Foundation - although it appears that he will remain owner.
The decision comes amid the fierce conflict between Abramovich’s nation Russia and near neighbours Ukraine.
He has owned the club since his 2003 takeover and has enjoyed an extended run of success with the west London outfit - a theme that has continued in his relationship with current head coach Thomas Tuchel.
Since tempting the former Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund boss to Stamford Bridge over a year ago, the pair have lifted the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and of course the FIFA Club World Cup.
Tuchel has of course been asked about his relationship with the Russian billionaire on a number of occasions and gave a deep insight into Abramovich’s affections for the sport and Chelsea in November.
He said: "Is he a special owner? I think first and most important, he is a huge football fan. He is in love with the game, with the details.

"He wants to know everything about what’s going on here in Cobham and we keep him informed and keep him posted because he has a genuine interest and love for the game."
Abramovich’s decision now sees the Trustees of the club’s charitable arm confirmed as decision makers for the time being.
Names among those include the likes of chairman Bruce Buck, Chelsea Women’s head coach Emma Hayes plus head of World Athletics Seb Coe.
