What Thomas Tuchel said to Raheem Sterling ahead of his first training session with Chelsea

The previous 24 hours have been something of a whirlwind for Raheem Sterling. He joined up with his new Chelsea teammates in Los Angeles late on Tuesday night and was up early the following morning to ensure the Blues had what they needed to announce his signing from Man City.

"‘I’ve obviously achieved a lot in my career so far," the England international told the club's website, "but there is still so much more to achieve and I’m really looking forward to doing that in a Chelsea shirt, under Thomas [Tuchel's] management.

"London is my home and where it all started for me, and it’s amazing I now have the opportunity to play in front of friends and family week in, week out at Stamford Bridge. I’m really looking forward to meeting the fans there soon. I do want to take the opportunity to thank Todd, Behdad, the ownership group, Thomas, and all involved in the process of getting me here. I can’t wait to get going now and continue to do my talking on the pitch."

Shortly after his signing was confirmed, Sterling and his new Chelsea teammates made the short journey from the team hotel in LA to the training pitches of UCLA. A collection of Blues supporters were on hand to greet the 27-year-old, who stopped to sign autographs before heading into the Drake Stadium.

After the pre-training massages and stretches had taken place, Tuchel gathered his squad on the pitch and delivered a short message to Sterling. The Chelsea head coach said: "Raheem is new with us, a very warm welcome from all of us. We're very happy that you are here. Have a good first training."

Sterling instantly settled into the group and cut a happy figure during the training session, which featured small footballs, something that has become a Tuchel trademark during his time in charge at Stamford Bridge.

There was no let-up for Sterling after the session, however, as he was part of a small group of Chelsea players who made the short trip to the LA Dodgers' Stadium where new co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali were on hand to greet their first men's team signing of the summer.
