What Thomas Partey and Ghana did before Andre Ayew penalty miss amid Darwin Nunez punishment

Ghana are looking to qualify for the World Cup round of 16 stage and progress out of Group H. The Black Stars need to avoid defeat to Uruguay and hope that Portugal do not lose to South Korea.

Ghana were knocked out of the World Cup back in 2010 at the hands of Uruguay after Asamoah Gyan missed a crucial penalty. Luis Suarez was sent off for handball after pushing a header clear off the line, but the Black Stars were unable to convert their spot kick.

Ghana fans have never forgiven Suarez for his actions in 2010 and were hoping to get revenge in their final Group H fixture as the two nations faced each other once again. In the 21st minute of play, Uruguay goalkeeper Sergio Rochet fouled Mohammed Kudus, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal, resulting in a penalty being award for the Black Stars.

VAR sent the referee to take a look at Rochet's foul on Kudus inside the penalty box, with the official awarding Ghana a penalty kick. Before the penalty was taken, Ghana players formed a human wall around the penalty spot to stop Uruguayan players from scuffing up the turf to hamper Andre Ayew's chances of scoring.

Suarez was joined by Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez as the striker duo blasted the referee, resulting in Nunez receiving a yellow card for dissent. Partey was joined by his teammates to form a circle around the penalty spot, but Ayew was unable to convert his penalty as Rochet made up for his error with a good save down to his left.

Uruguay ended up winning 2-0 against Ghana but neither side were able to progress into the round of 16 after South Korea beat Portugal 2-1 and progressed based on goals scored.
