What Thiago Silva did after Chelsea's training decision amid Graham Potter sack stance

Following their turgid Premier League defeat to Southampton on Saturday afternoon, Chelsea players have been given a second day off by Graham Potter and his coaching staff. Having Sunday away from the Cobham training pitches was always the plan but news of a second consecutive day off after a crucial loss caught many supporters off guard.

The Blues play the final Premier League game of the weekend in a London derby against Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Given the scheduling of their next match, perhaps Potter sees it as the ideal chance for his players to go away and refresh themselves, physically and mentally, after what has been a gruelling period for the squad.

Two defeats in two separate competitions in the last week have seen pressure mount on Potter in west London. The Chelsea boss watched on as his side failed to score for the fourth time in their last five games, despite having numerous chances.

Potter still looks to have the backing of Todd Boehly and the higher-ups at Chelsea despite their awful recent run of form, although many supporters are calling form him to be sacked. In the build up to Thomas Tuchel's dismissal, Chelsea had lost three of their previous five games, while current form under Potter sees no win in over a month with three draws and two defeats in that time.

Earlier in the season, following an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Brentford, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag cancelled a planned day off to bring his players in for training. The Dutch head coach instead instructed his players to complete a 13.8km run - the same amount Brentford had run more than his side - in which he also took part.

Potter has seemingly gone for a different approach by issuing another day away from the training ground, but Thiago Silva, who was rested for the Southampton game, had other ideas.

Posting to his Instagram story, Silva showed followers that he spent the day off working out in the gym as he attempts to lead Chelsea out of their recent slump. The Brazil international recorded himself on an exercise bike while also doing numerous strength and conditioning exercises.
