What the new Sky Sports TV deal means for all Scottish clubs

THE SPFL have sealed a new £150million TV broadcasting deal with Sky Sports.

The agreement was struck on Monday after a "Qualified Resolution" among Premiership clubs was passed with an 11-1 majority.

The deal was thrown into doubt with Rangers and Livingston failing to provide their backing to the proposal.

However, the latter eventually voted through the deal which gave the SPFL the green light to rubber stamp the T&Cs with Sky.

In an email to clubs, SPFL chief Murdoch MacLennan said: "I am pleased to be able to advise you that the Commercial Resolution in respect of the proposal from Sky has now been approved by cinch Premiership Clubs and that the Qualified Resolution amending the SPFL Rules (to accommodate the Sky proposal) has also been approved.

"Thank you for your support of this important rule change. The extended contract with Sky will underpin the finances of the SPFL for the next seven years, in the face of what appear to be strengthening economic headwinds.

"Over the coming days, we will look to contract with Sky and to announce the extension, which, by value, will be by far the largest single commercial contract in the history of Scottish league football."

So what does the new deal entail? And what does it mean for Scottish clubs? We have you covered.

How much is the deal worth?

Overall, the new package is worth £150m.

Broken down, this means that Sky will pay £30million per season.

Now confirmed, it will increase the top flight clubs' collective TV income by £5m per season

When does the deal kick in?

The new five-year broadcast contract will begin in 2024.

How many games will be shown on Sky?

As part of the current deal 48 games are selected for TV broadcast.

The new figure will be 60 games up until the summer of 2029.

This will see each teams' number of home matches chosen for TV increased from four per season to five.

Sky will also be granted first refusal on buying up two further bundles of matches, potentially taking the total number of games on the box to 80.
