The Chicago Bears selected Texas running back Roschon Johnson with the 115th overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft.
Teammate Bijan Robinson overshadowed Johnson, who has a high ceiling. But Johnson is a do-it-all player who could become a starter.
Here’s a quick scouting report on Johnson:
Vitals
Position: RB
Age: 22
School: Texas
Measurables: 6-foot, 219 pounds
Strengths
- Powerful; a big-bodied runner who can run past defenders in the open field.
- Effective pass blocker and willing to serve as a lead blocker.
- Has good vision and ability to make one cut and get upfield.
Weaknesses
- Not very shifty. Johnson is best going north and south, not east to west.
- He builds speed the longer he runs, not an elite accelerator.
- Johnson has a hard time sifting through trash at the line of scrimmage and finding a running lane.
Fit with Bears
The Texas running back is a great fit for the Bears running back committee. He’s a powerful runner who will complement Khalil Herbert and D’Onta Foreman. Johnson can also be relied on in pass protection, something Herbert and Foreman struggle with.
