Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is currently in the midst of his most impressive run of form since arriving at the Emirates Stadium.
Following an inconsistent first season in north London after his big-money switch from Atletico Madrid, the Ghanaian midfielder has stepped up to the plate during the current campaign with the Gunners closing in on a return to the Champions League. His displays have certainly been eye-catching, whilst he also topped his impressive performances with a goal in Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Leicester City at the weekend.
Whilst it is not a surprise to finally see Partey seize the initiative in north London, one thing has left people baffled and that is the nickname that the 28-year-old currently has.

In an interview with Sky Sports, he revealed that he is called ‘Senegal’ - somewhat of a confusing name considering that he represents the Ghanaian national side. Since his debut for the Black Stars back in 2016, he has gone on to accumulate 36 appearances for his country and has scored a respectable 11 goals.
There appears to be reasoning behind the nickname though. According to the International Champions Cup, the midfielder was bestowed with the nickname when playing for his father’s team in Ghana - his playing style reminding his dad of one of his friends whose name was Senegal.
Partey will certainly be aiming to continue his excellent form, with the Gunners aiming to take another significant step towards a Champions League return. Arsenal take on Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday with the aim of extending their advantage over Manchester United to four points.
Partey has made 23 appearances for the Gunners so far this season, scoring twice. Intriguingly, he has already made more Premier League starts this season than he managed throughout the entirety of the previous campaign.
