What Steven Gerrard did at full-time whistle after Aston Villa win at Everton

Steven Gerrard certainly enjoyed his first trip back to Goodison Park since leaving Liverpool in 2015.

The 41-year-old guided Aston Villa to a 1-0 away win over the Blues, with Emiliano Buendia's first-half header proving to be the difference between the sides.

It was an afternoon of subplots on Merseyside as Gerrard returned to the home of his old rivals - as did former Red Philippe Coutinho - while Lucas Digne was lining up for the visitors, having left Everton earlier this month.

The Villa boss was on the receiving end of a hostile reception as he made his way off the pitch at half-time, with similar scenes also witnessed on his trip to Old Trafford in the FA Cup on January 10.

Hopes of Duncan Ferguson producing a repeat of his 3-1 win over Chelsea back in December 2019 during his initial caretaker role were short-lived, leaving the Blues in a familiar position come the full-time whistle on Saturday afternoon.

Gerrard, meanwhile, was in high spirits after the 90 minutes were up and headed onto the pitch to celebrate a hard-fought three points with his players.

While on the Goodison surface, the Liverpool legend enjoyed a light-hearted moment with the BT Sports cameras after kicking the Premier League match ball off the pitch before adding, 'still got it!'

Victory moved his side into the top half of the top-flight table, which comes as a much-needed boost having not won in the league since December 14 before today.
