What Son Heung-min did after Golden Boot award win ahead of Tottenham's pre-season tour

What a season Son Heung-min has had. Although the South Korean does get praised, it is usually Harry Kane who makes all the headlines.

However this season the 29-year-old has made even more of an impact than usual. Last year, Son signed a new four-year contract with Tottenham, handing the north London side a boost ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

The season was a rollercoaster for Spurs but the impact the South Korean has made in the front three, since Antonio Conte's arrival, has been huge. Kane and Son's on-field relationship also went from strength to strength this season.

The duo broke the Premier League record for the most combination goals earlier in the season. With the England captain finding himself dropping into deeper positions this season, it has given Son a huge boost in front of goal.

This helped the 29-year-old score a total of 23 league goals this season and he managed to also register nine assists. What makes the tally even more impressive, is that none of those goals came from penalties.

This led Son to securing his first Golden Boot award, making him the first Asian player ever to claim the award. The South Korean ended up sharing it with Mohamed Salah, after the Egyptian scored an 80th minute goal in Liverpool's final fixture of the season.

In his post match interview, Son was full of thanks for his teammates, whom he said he couldn't have scored the goals without the help of. "I couldn't make it probably if I was alone, but everyone next to me was just pushing myself," the 29-year-old admitted to Spurs TV.

"Even Lucas [Moura] who came on, Stevie [Steven Bergwijn], H [Kane], Eric [Dier], Ben [Davies]. Every player was next to me and said, 'Sonny you've got to do this, you believe and you will get another chance'. Finally I scored and I scored second goal, it was just incredible.

"Today I missed the easiest chances but I scored one of the toughest chances. I'm very happy and I'm really, really grateful for the team that they helped me a lot, especially all season but this game today [Sunday], after 3-0 everyone was just like 'Go on Son, go on Son! You got to do this, you deserve this'. I was really appreciative and that's why I was pushing myself as well," Son added.

After the South Korean spent the rest of the evening celebrating with his teammates, it wasn't long before he returned to his home country, where the support continued. The 29-year-old is such a popular figure in South Korea and a video was put on Twitter by Reuters, of Son showing his award when he returned to his nation.

Loud cheers could be heard as the Tottenham player showed off his award and posed for pictures. This support is likely to continue when the Lilywhites travel to Son's home country for their pre-season tour.

In February, football.london reported the club's announcement of the tournament. On Monday, Spurs revealed that Conte's side would take on Sevilla, in a match that will form part of the Coupang Play Series in South Korea.

So Son can continue enjoying his Golden Boot celebrations ahead of the pre-season tour, which he explained he was "excited" for, especially going with his teammates as "for most...this will be their first visit".
