What Sofyan Amrabat has said about possible transfer as Manchester United 'agree personal terms'

Sofyan Amrabat has previously said a move to the Premier League would "suit" him.

Reports coming out of Italy have suggested the Reds have agreed personal terms with the player with Erik ten Hag looking to add to his squad following an encouraging first season at Old Trafford. The midfielder impressed for his country during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as Morocco finished in fourth place following a 2-1 third-place play-off loss to Croatia.

And now RAI [via Sportskeeda] reports that United have 'agreed personal terms' with Amrabat. Ten Hag had targeted a new midfielder in this summer's transfer window, although it remains to be seen whether another will join alongside Mason Mount after United agreed a £55million fee plus £5million in further add-ons with Chelsea for the England international.

The Reds are working within a strict budget due to Financial Fair Play concerns, although their kitty can be increased through player sales. Should United move for Amrabat, however, it appears the player would be keen to move to Old Trafford.

Last month he spoke about transfer speculation linking him with a move away from Fiorentina. He said: "Of course, the Premier League is a fantastic league, one of the strongest in the world. It would be nice to play there one day, but it's not that I want only to go to England, because Spain is nice, Serie A is a nice league.

"Football has changed a lot, it's more physical, you have more to be an athlete, the tempo and intensity is higher. Of course, in England the intensity is very high, so I think it could suit me."

In March, Amrabat's brother, Nordin, revealed a January move to Old Trafford fell through.

"I can name three clubs who were concrete in the last two or three days of the transfer window," he said. "Manchester United wanted a loan with an option to buy deal, Fiorentina rejected."

He then explained last month that his brother has a "good relationship" with United boss Erik ten Hag.

"He wants to go to the top, you are not going to trade Italy for the middle bracket of the Premier League," he said. "At Barcelona he is high on the list but you know Barca’s financial situation. Of course you never know, it will be a strong competition when you see which names are going.

"But my brother now has the intention to play in the top, preferably in Spain or England, I think. Ten Hag is now looking for a striker, he wants that first. From there he will see what is possible. But I know that Ten Hag is charmed by my brother. He broke through under him and they have a good relationship, so who knows."

Amrabat's contract with Fiorentina is due to expire in a year's time meaning he could be available this summer for a cut-price fee as Fiorentina would risk losing him for nothing at the end of the 2023/24 season.
