What shops are closing this month? From B&M to the The Works, the full list of stores shutting this July

Shops including the Co-op, B&M and B&Q will shut their stores for good this month.

The big-name retailers will close down stores this July in what has been dubbed a worrying trend for UK high streets.

Multiple household favourites set to shut sites in specific areas include Poundland, B&M, B&Q, The Works, and the Co-operative (Co-op). However, many are blaming leasing issues rather than the economic situation, and some stores will be replaced.

Here is a list of the store closures taking place in the weeks ahead:

B&M

The discount retailer – a favourite for cleaning supplies, sweets and chocolate, and everything in between – will close its store in Lord Street, Gainsborough, with shoppers having until July 17 to have a last hurrah in the store.

Shoppers don’t have long to wait, however, as a new B&M store will open in the same area, in Marshalls Yard, on July 20.

B&Q

The popular DIY store will shut down its Sudbury store on July 20.

They say this is purely down to the the expiration of the store's lease, with the landlord securing planning permission to develop the site, rather than a decision made by them to leave the area.

Poundland

Mega-saving stores will shut in Hitchin on July 16 and in Freeman Street, Grimsby, on July 20.

A spokesman said: "We’ve been unable to secure a long-term lease that would enable us to keep trading, which is disappointing."

Robert Dyas

Robert Dyas will no longer have a base in Castlepoint, Bournemouth, from July 20.

A Robert Dyas spokesperson confirmed: "The landlord has served notice on our Castle Point store, as they wanted to split the unit in two and, sadly, we were not able to mutually agree terms in bidding for one of those units.

"We will leave that store on July 20, and continue to look for an additional and appropriate new site in the area, as it is a strong-performing store for us. The next nearest stores in the meantime, for our loyal Robert Dyas customers, are Poole and Christchurch."

Peacocks

The clothes shop announced it was shutting their store in Hollywell High Street, Flintshire, in Wales for good, with the last day of trading on July 25.

Co-op

The corner shop has shut for good in Meir, Stoke-on-Trent since July 13.

Despite the closure, it is understood that staff have had their roles transferred over to a Nisa store in the area.

The Works

Books will be off the table from July 26 when The Works closes its store in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, after being left unable to agree new terms on its lease.

A spokesperson for the arts and craft retailer explained: "This has been a great location for The Works but, sadly, we have been unable to agree on suitable lease terms to stay. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this closure and would like to thank customers for shopping at the store over the years."

Card Factory

Those wanting balloons, cards and badges will no longer be able to go to the Card Factory in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, from July 20. A Card Factory spokesperson said: "We continually review our estate of over 1,050 stores across the UK and Ireland.

"With our other Cumbernauld store just around the corner in the Antonine Shopping Centre on Forth Walk (0.2 miles away), we have taken the decision to close our store on Teviot Street from July 20. We look forward to continuing to serve all our Cumbernauld customers and helping them celebrate their special life moments.”
