What Shakhtar Donetsk's Mykhaylo Mudryk did amid Arsenal transfer links

Following Arsenal making it five wins in succession on Wednesday night, with their latest victory coming against Aston Villa, all eyes were on whether the north Londoners would make further reinforcements to bolster their squad.

Douglas Luiz was high on the agenda, following injuries to Thomas Partey and Mohammed Elneny, but a deal couldn't be reached, meaning that no new signings were made.

Certainly, it feels like Arsenal have left themselves light in the centre of the park, with Sambi Lokonga currently the only lone pivot option available.

It was also well documented that Arsenal were on the hunt for a new wide player, in order to provide sufficient competition to Hale End graduate Bukayo Saka, whilst easing the pressure placed on his young talented shoulders.

Pedro Neto was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, although it was reported that Wolves were demanding much higher than what Arsenal were willing to pay, which was rumoured to be around the £50 million mark.

Another player that was of interest was Shakhtar Donetsk's winger Mykhaylo Mudryk. The talented Ukraine international offers explosive power, particular on the left flank, capable of accelerating past his man both from a standing start and on the run.

The 21-year-old's ability to remain secure under physical contact, offer versatility and deliver quality inside the final third are desirable traits needed in a wide player, so it's not a surprise to see why Arteta was intrigued by his profile.

Interestingly, however, Mudryk had a rather chaotic game in Shakhtar Donetsk's 1-0 victory against FC Rukh Lviv, as he was given a straight red card in the first half.

He can, however, consider himself unlucky since there was no VAR available and the challenge made wasn't as malicious as it seemed initially. One would think that an appeal would see his three-game suspension overturned.
