What’s Open On The January Long Weekend? Woolworths, Coles, Liquor Stores & Banks

With Invasion Day (or Australia Day for those who celebrate colonisation) falling on Sunday, January 26, the national public holiday has been moved to Monday, January 27. That being said, here are all the shops — from groceries to bottle o’s — that are open over the long weekend.

But before we jump into what’s open, there are also a lot of rallies, protests and events reminding Australians about the atrocities that unfolded when the British invaded Australia on January 26.

So if you want to show up, show out and stand alongside our First Nations people, here’s what’s happening over the long weekend.

Here’s what’s open over the long weekend.

Is Woolworths Open?

For NSW, ACT and Tasmania, most Woolworths stores will remain open on both January 26 and 27. However, punters in those states are urged to double-check their local shops and its opening hours online.

In Victoria, most stores will also be open, except for Bourke Street and Collins Square.

For shoppers in Queensland, all Woolies will be open for business except for Mission Beach, Gordonvale, Ayr, Weipa, Bowen, Charters Towers, Blackwater, Mt Isa, Childers, Kingaroy, Chinchilla, Pittsworth and Roma.

For shoppers in SA, the Millicent store will be closed and for WA, both Esperance and Katanning stores will be closed on January 26.

Is Coles Open?

For January 26, most Coles stores will carry on with standard trading hours. However, shoppers who are looking to buy some stuff on the Sabbath are still urged to check their local’s trading hours online.

For January 27, trading hours for Coles differ in each state.

In NSW and Victoria, most stores will carry on with their normal hours, with some small changes. For ACT and Tassie, Coles stores will operate in their normal hours.

For Queensland, all stores in the tourist precinct will run from 7am to 9pm and other stores will open for business from 9am to 6pm.

For shoppers in SA, Adelaide metro stores will be closed except the CBD store, which will be open from 11am to 5pm. All other stores will run from 8am to 8pm.

WA’s Coles metro stores will be up and running from 8am to 6pm while regional stories will be open for their normal or legislative-approved hours.

For Coles stores located in the NT, trading hours are from 8am to 8pm and for stores in Alice Springs, Coles will be open from 8am to 7pm.

Is Aldi open?

For Aldi loyalists, most stores will be open over the weekend. However, shoppers are encouraged to check online for individual store trading hours on January 26 and 27.

Is Target open?

Target shops across Australia will be open on January 26. But for shoppers in SA, Targets will be closed on January 27.

Is Kmart open?

Similarly to Target, most Kmart stores across the country will be open for both January 26 and 27, except for SA.

Select stores in SA — including Tea Tree, Munno Para, Firle, Kurralta Park, West Lakes, Ingle Farm, Port Noarlunga, Churchill and Marion — will be closed on Monday.

Is Westfield open?

Shoppers hoping to stroll the hallways of Westfields may be able to do so as most Westfield centres will be open for trade on January 27. However, punters are urged to check for trading hours for their local centres online.

For SA, Westfields will be closed on Monday.

Is Bunnings open?

Across the country, Bunnings will be open for business during the long weekend, but Trade Centres will be closed.

But just like most stores on this list, the big dogs at Bunnings have urged consumers to check online as each store may have differing business hours.

Is the liquor shop open?

Dan Murphy’s, BWS, Liquorland and Vintage Cellars will be open for trading on both January 26 and 27. But before heading in to lock in your bevies, customers are urged to check online as business hours vary.

Are banks open?

Go get your money, honey, ‘cos all banks are shut down on January 27.
