What's new on Netflix in April 2023: All the series and films coming soon

A new month is here - which, for Netflix subscribers, means dozens of new series and films to look forward to in the coming weeks.

The streaming giant has announced its April catalogue of original new content, and there's something to suit everyone - from rom-coms to edge-of-your-seat thrillers, or fantasy adventures to gripping documentaries. Popular series including Sweet Tooth, Indian Matchmaking and The Marked Heart are all making a comeback this month, and there are also plenty of brand new options to delve into.

Whether you're keen to tune into a new nature documentary from the director of My Octopus Teacher or are more partial to a true story about a couple who got stuck abroad together on their third date as the first Covid lockdown hit, you're sure to find something whatever you're in the mood for this month. Take a look at all of Netflix's new original series coming out this April below.

Series

War Sailor, April 2 - In this mystery drama, a sailor and his childhood friend are working in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean when World War II breaks out - leading to a violent struggle for survival as they find themselves on the front line and facing attack from German submarines.

Beef, April 6 - This dark comedy drama follows the aftermath of a road rage incident between two strangers, as the increasing stakes of their feud begin to unravel their lives and relationships.

Thicker Than Water, April 7 - A journalist's life devolves into chaos when she shields her brother from the law, inadvertently entangling her family in a drug lord's merciless scheme.

Transatlantic, April 7 - This new drama is inspired by the true story of Varian Fry, Mary Jayne Gold and the Emergency Rescue Committee, who risked their lives to help more than 2000 refugees escape the Nazis in occupied France.

American Manhunt: The Boston Marathon Bombing, April 12 - This three-part documentary follows the "tense, terrifying days" that followed the attacks in Boston at the marathon finish line in 2013, featuring video footage of the manhunt, police testimonies, and expert insight.

Florida Man, April 13 - A struggling ex-cop finds himself on a spiralling journey into buried family secrets after being forced to return to his home state of Florida to find a mobster's runaway girlfriend.

Alex Schwazer: Running For My Truth, April 13 - This documentary follows the rise, fall and search for redemption of Olympic athlete Alex Schwazer as it explores "one of the most complex political-judicial cases in the history of Italian sport".

Queenmaker, April 14 - After a tragic accident, a powerful fixer uses her skills to transform a civil rights lawyer into the next mayor - and take down her former employer.

How To Get Rich, April 18 - Finance expert Ramit Sethi works with people across the US to help them achieve their richest lives.

The Marked Heart, April 19 - After a man discovers that his wife faked her death to disappear from his life, he hatches a master plan to get her back and carry out revenge on the man she fell in love with in the second season of this twisty thriller.

Chimp Empire, April 19 - From the Oscar-winning director of My Octopus Teacher, this documentary explores the fascinating world of the largest chimpanzee society ever discovered as they navigate complex social politics, family dynamics and dangerous territory disputes.

The Diplomat, April 20 - In the midst of an international crisis, a career diplomat lands in a high-profile job she’s unsuited for, with tectonic implications for her marriage and her political future.

Rough Diamonds, April 21 - This eight-part crime drama follows the struggles and strife of the Wolfsons, a prominent ultra-Orthodox Jewish family within Antwerp's world-famous diamond industry.

Indian Matchmaking, April 21 - The third season of this popular reality show follows Mumbai's premiere matchmaker help more single millennials around the globe find their perfect match.

Love After Music, April 26 - This biographical series takes an intimate look at the life and career of Fito Paez, one of Argentina's most renowned artists, and includes his musical journey alongside rock icons.

Sweet Tooth, April 27 - In the second season of the hit fantasy adventure, Gus and his fellow hybrids are held captive by the Last Men in order to find a cure for the Sick - to save his friends, Gus must find new strength as he uncovers the origins of The Great Crumble.

King of Collectibles: The Golden Touch, April 28 - Ken Goldin and his savvy team run the thrilling action in this series that goes inside a leading auction house specialising in rare collectibles.

My Name is Monique, April 4 - This stand-up special sees comedian Mo'Nique spill all, from staring down a racist teacher to her grandmother's sex warning.

Chupa, April 7 - While visiting his family in Mexico, teenage Alex gains an unlikely companion when he discovers a young chupacabra hiding in his grandpa’s shed - in order to save the mythical creature, Alex and his cousins must embark on the adventure of a lifetime.

Oh Belinda, April 7 - A young actor's perfect life takes a madcap turn when she agrees to star in a commercial — and suddenly gets transported to her character's world.

Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die, April 14 - In the wake of King Edward's death, Uhtred of Bebbanburg and his comrades adventure across a fractured kingdom in the hopes of uniting England at last.

Weathering, April 14 - After losing her baby and nearly her life during labour, a journalist unravels amid disturbing visions and chilling attacks as she grieves alone at home.

Longest Third Date, April 18 - This documentary follows Matt and Khani, who decide to spontaneously fly to Costa Rica for their third date after hitting it off on Hinge - and end up getting stuck there when the world shuts down in March 2020.

Power Rangers: Once & Always, April 19 - This 30th anniversary special sees the Mighty Morphin team called on once again to be the heroes the world needs in the midst of a global crisis and a familiar threat from the past.

One More Time, April 21 - When 40 year old Amelia is hit by a truck the night of her birthday she wakes up back in 2002, on her 18th birthday, with the chance to relive her best day - but soon realises she is stuck in a time-loop, desgined to relive the same day over and over again.

Chokehold, April 21 - Evading a scandal, a couple from Istanbul starts over in a town on the Aegean coast — but quickly discover the locals are determined to get rid of them.

A Tourist's Guide to Love, April 21 - After an unexpected breakup, a travel executive accepts an assignment to go undercover and learn about the tourist industry in Vietnam - along the way she finds adventure and romance with her Vietnamese expat tour guide when they decide to reroute the tour bus in order to explore life and love off the beaten path.

John Mulaney: Baby J, April 25 - Emmy Award-winning comedian, writer and actor John Mulaney returns with a brand-new stand-up special.

The Matchmaker, April 27 - When an office worker becomes powerfully infatuated with his beautiful intern, he follows her to a desert resort overrun with bizarre forces.

AKA, April 28 - In this intense action thriller, a special ops agent goes undercover within a criminal organisation and unexpectedly befriends the boss's young son.
