Over the last 10 games, Boston Celtics reserve guard Derrick White has stepped up when his number was called. Since the team lost starting point guard Marcus Smart to injury, White has averaged 19.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.1 blocks per game.
“I’m just trying to tell myself to have good energy,” suggested the Colorado native via CLNS Media after Boston’s most recent win, a 119-109 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday afternoon. “I feel like when I have good energy whether they are in or not, I’m able to do some good things out there.”
“I just tell myself that before every game just (to) bring the energy, make shots, just make the right play,” he added.

Given he is playing the best basketball of his young tenure with the Celtics almost exactly a year from being dealt to Boston from the San Antonio Spurs, we’d say it just took him a little time to stretch out and get comfortable.
