What Rio Ferdinand did when asked to sign a Liverpool shirt at Craven Cottage

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has shared the moment he was asked to sign a Liverpool shirt by a young supporter.

The pundit was at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon for BT Sport's coverage of Liverpool 's opening game of the Premier League season. It was an afternoon to forget for Jurgen Klopp 's side as they scraped a point against Fulham.

An effort from Darwin Nunez cancelled out Aleksandar Mitrovic's opener, but the Serbia international put his side back in front from the penalty spot shortly after. Mohamed Salah equalised once again late on, but Liverpool failed to clinch a winner in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Ferdinand shared a clip on social media before kick-off with supporters and one young fan at the front asked the former United star to sign his Liverpool shirt.

"He just asked me to sign his Liverpool shirt," Ferdinand said in the video. "Are you crazy?

He then joked: "I can't sign it, I can't!"

Ferdinand was impressed with Marco Silva's performance against the Champions League finalists, as he told BT Sport after the game: "What a first game back, it had everything, it had grit, goals but spirit in this Fulham team.

"They were set up well, difficult to break down, difficult to get through. The two centre midfielders plonked in front of the defenders they’re going to need them."
