What people want to see replace Argos and Frankie and Benny's on Victoria Retail Park

People in Netherfield have lots of ideas in mind when it comes to what they would like to replace the former Argos store on Victoria Retail Park and also the former Frankie and Benny’s restaurant.

Argos confirmed the Victoria Retail Park store's closure last year and the store closed its doors in November 2021. The store relocated in the new Sainsbury's store in Netherfield. The Frankie and Benny’s on site closed following the restaurant chain's decision to close many restaurants including in the city centre, Victoria Retail Park, Netherfield, Sutton-in-Ashfield and Mansfield.

Many people in Netherfield suggested a range of stores and different types of restaurants they would like to see in the retail park. Diane Williams, who is 62 and a care worker from Netherfield, told Nottinghamshire Live that she would like a shoe shop to replace Argos. “I think a shoe shop - a proper shoe shop would be good.

“Where you can take the children and get a proper fitting like at Clarks. I buy Skechers online so something like that. As for Frankie and Benny’s she said a pizza place would be good. She added: “It’s a shame - not that I ever ate there.

“A cheap, easy restaurant like pizza or an all you can eat. Somewhere where you can build your own pizza - my grandkids would love stuff like that.”

The retail park is currently home to many stores such as Boots, JD, B&M, Next, TK Maxx and Cardzone. Shoppers previously shared their Sadness as the Argos store closed on the retail park.

Garfield Robinson, 48, who works at a local church, says that a business that can get the community more involved would be good for a restaurant. Mr Robinson said: “There could be more of a food shop - like a supermarket. Maybe not a supermarket - a wholesalers.

When asked about the restaurant he said: “A takeaway, fast food. With a drive in. That would be interesting - it doesn't need to be something like KFC, just something that the community can get involved in.”

Jenny Sladen, who is 44, told Nottinghamshire Live that a pub would be a great idea. She said: “Probably what would be a good idea would be a family pub. There’s no real family pubs around here.

“If there was one then brilliant - a bite to eat and a spot of lunch. That’s the only thing I can think of that’s different.”

There has been excitement recently in Netherfield as a new continental store opened up on Victoria Road. They sell a lot of European products from Poland, Romania and Latvia.

Beryl Rogers, 92 and from Carlton, told Nottinghamshire Live that she uses the retail store a lot and suggested what she would like to see. She said: “They’ve got Morrisons and Marks (and Spencers) so plenty where we can get groceries - Sainsbury’s too. You’ve got Boots.

“I don’t know whether a furniture shop would do well there. Perhaps another clothes shop but obviously for me an elderly person. Not a cheap shop, a decent store.”

As for a restaurant she said: “A nice restaurant would be nice - I’m very traditional, I’m not adventurous with food. “A place with a carvery, a carvey would be lovely. Perhaps take out and eat in.”
