Ole Gunnar Solskjaer messaged Erling Haaland to wish him well on 'the wrong side' of Manchester after the Borussia Dortmund striker completed a move to Manchester City.
Haaland, 21, has moved to the Etihad this summer in a £51m deal as he looks to continue his stratospheric rise in the game. He arrived at Norwegian first-division side Molde as a 16-year-old and hit it off instantly with Solskjaer, scoring 20 goals in 50 games to earn a move to RB Salzburg and then, a year later, Dortmund.
Solskjaer has remained in contact with Haaland throughout his career and nearly signed the player for United in 2019. United sources insist they pulled out of a deal to sign the Norway international because they refused to agree to a buyout clause and percentage of future sales, with sources describing the proposed terms as 'bad for the industry'.

The player still rejected an offer that was made by United and he signed with Dortmund instead, where he plundered 85 goals in 88 appearances.
The striking superstar has no regrets over the choices he has made so far in choosing his clubs - even if his former manager is still keen to talk up United to him.
"When I signed with City he congratulated me and wrote to me 'Good luck on going to the wrong side of Manchester'. We talk sometimes. As you know, he had a huge impact on my career when I was at Molde. He's a good guy," he told the Manchester Evening News.
"Three years ago City didn't want me because they had [Sergio] Aguero up front so then there was no choice about coming to Man City.
"Basically, my feeling was I felt more going to the other place than coming here to England. I could have come here a lot of times in my career but I felt the other place and I think it was a really good choice.
"I have made perfect choices ever since I went to Molde, then Salzburg and Dortmund. I'm not complaining about that."
