What new Crystal Palace signing Luke Plange did last night in Derby County win

New Crystal Palace signing Luke Plange put on a show for Derby County fans last night with an outrageous piece of skill by the corner flag.

The 19-year-old striker, who signed for the Eagles for £1million on deadline day before being loaned back to the Rams, started for Wayne Rooney's side in their 3-1 win over Hull City at Pride Park.

Goals from Craig Forsyth, Tom Lawrence and Festy Ebosele had the Rams in a commanding lead and, despite a Craig Forsyth own-goal in the second half, they had the game virtually wrapped up heading into six minutes of stoppage time.

This was when Plange chased the ball to the corner flag and drew in Brandon Fleming and Tom Huddlestone before spinning away from them with a double nutmeg flicked between the pair's legs with his right boot.

Both Derby and Palace fans were quick to sing the forward's praises on social media following the piece of trickery, with Sky Sports commentator Lee Hendrie calling it "absolutely brilliant skill" during the match.

@_Simon91_ tweeted: "Surely there are some Palace fans watching tonight, that is what you get with Luke Plange class player," while @oscarrcpfc said "Luke Plange for less than a mil[lion] was Dougie Freedman at his finest."

@ReeceJMT added: "Plange really looks like [the] real deal, didn't realise how skilful he was and his movement off the ball is elite."

@SteveBloomerPod said: "Hasn't had much service tonight, but some of Plange's hold-up play has been terrific," while @AdamFisher02 tweeted: "Plange has been excellent again. So much unselfish work."

Palace wrapped up the deal to bring Plange to Selhurst Park on the last day of the January transfer window, immediately sending him back on loan to Wayne Rooney for the rest of the season.

This was one of the key principals of the deal to sign the teenager, with Derby currently in administration and desperate to pull themselves clear of relegation despite a transfer embargo and a 21-point deduction.

Palace chairman Steve Parish outlined this when Plange's signing was announced, wishing the Rams well for their "important battles" ahead.

"[Luke] has an important role to fulfil playing at Derby, and we appreciate his significance to them in their current circumstances," said the club's chairman and co-owner.

"It is less than 12 years ago that our club was in a similar situation - as a result, we were determined to ensure both clubs benefit through this deal.

"Therefore Luke will return on loan for the remainder of the season and help Derby with their important battles on and off the pitch."
