What Mauricio Pochettino has said about Paulo Dybala amid Manchester United transfer links

Manchester United-linked Mauricio Pochettino has previously described Juventus star Paulo Dybala as one of the "best in the world" amid reports linking him with a move to Old Trafford.

The versatile attacker, according to a report by Sky Sports, will leave Juventus at the end of this season upon the expiry of his contract. Talks have taken place between his agent and Juventus' hierarchy in a bid to reach an agreement but no such solution has been discovered.

Therefore, he will leave the club at the end of the campaign and will be available on a free transfer. Unsurprisingly, various news outlets are already linking him with several Premier League clubs, including United.

Dybala, who has been at Juventus since 2015, during which time he has scored 113 goals in 283 games, was linked with a move to Old Trafford a few years ago, but nothing ever came of it. However, Tottenham Hotspur agreed a fee with Juventus in the summer of 2019 to sign the versatile Argentine, only for the deal to break down.

At the time, Pochettino, who remains a target to become United's next manager, was in charge of the north London club and was keen to add his fellow countryman to his squad. Just over a year earlier, the now-Paris Saint-Germain head coach waxed lyrical about Dybala, describing him as one of the best players on the planet.

Speaking back in February 2018, Pochettino told Rai Sport: "I think Dybala will recover [from an injury] and I hope he does, because I think it's always nice to play against the best in the world.

"I put Dybala in that category, because he is a special talent and seeing him on the pitch is wonderful, even if he might cause your team a few problems."

With that said, taking into account the news that Dybala is set to be available on a free transfer this summer, would United, if Pochettino succeeded Ralf Rangnick, pinpoint him as a player he would like to sign? Time, of course, will tell, with there not yet any guarantees if Pochettino will land the job.

However, if the PSG chief does take over the reins at Old Trafford, and Dybala has not sourced a new club by that stage, links with United are only likely to intensify. The Argentine, who can play as a striker or an advanced midfielder, has scored 13 times and claimed nine assists in 29 appearances for Juventus this season.
