What Mason Mount has said about Chelsea future amid Liverpool 'plans' for transfer

Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for Chelsea star Mason Mount.

Rumours first emerged last year of the Reds apparently being interested in signing the 24-year-old in the coming months. Mount’s current deal at Stamford Bridge runs until 2024, meaning he has entered the final 18 months of his contract.

The result of this is speculation surrounding his future, with Liverpool apparently showing an interest in the player. Mount has been with Chelsea since the age of six, but he could be set to depart in the near future.

A report from The Guardian claimed that Liverpool are putting plans in place to make a move for Mount in the event he doesn’t sign a new contract with Chelsea. The Londoners are keen to keep hold of the player, but it’s claimed that Mount wants a pay rise on his current £75,000 per-week salary.

Whilst the report states that Chelsea are prepared to offer an improved contract for Mount, it has been stated that there is a risk of the player feeling underappreciated at Stamford Bridge. So what has the player actually said about his future?
Speculation first arose around Mount’s future shortly before the World Cup began in November. The midfielder was asked about whether or not he has seen the rumours surrounding a potential exit from the club that has been his home for 18 years.

“I have always been so focused on my football since I was in the academy,” Mount said to The Evening Standard in November.

“I know now there is a lot more media focus on me, but I do not look too much into that. I block it out.”

Mount is just one of many midfielders who have been linked with Liverpool in recent months. He joins the likes of Jude Bellingham, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Ruben Neves, Matheus Nunes and Alexis Mac Allister, to name a few.
