What Man City boss Pep Guardiola told Tommy Doyle before Sheffield United loan

Pep Guardiola spoke with Manchester City midfielder Tommy Doyle before the youngster headed out on loan to Sheffield United this week. Doyle, 20, sealed a second successive loan spell in the Championship after impressing at Cardiff for the second half of last season, and has been rewarded with a move up the division to the Blades, who will target a return to the Premier League.

Speaking on Sheffield United's pre-season camp in Portugal, Doyle revealed how he had spoken to Guardiola before making the move to Bramall Lane, as well as coaches and bosses at City.

He told YorkshireLive : "All in all it's the experience of playing. At a young age you have to make a step at some point to go and play football.

"His words were just go and play, do as well as you can and give 100% for Sheffield United. I have my own personal goals as well to do well and work hard and I want to get promoted to the Premier League. There are goals from both sides."

In further quotes, from the Sheffield Star, Doyle said: "I give everything, I'm someone who'll give 110 per cent, regardless. There are other parts of my game, goals and passes and tackles and assists, but the main thing is that I'll put it all in.

"I think that's the basic any footballer should do. And I'll certainly do that every week while I'm here. This is a club that works hard, and my focus is 100 per cent here.

"I've been told [by City] to go and work hard and give everything for this club. Which I'll do. The physicality of the Championship was difficult, but the number of games in quick succession was difficult too. But it's something I'm used to now. And I'm looking forward to it with Sheffield United."
