What Man City boss Pep Guardiola told officials to earn a yellow card vs Nottingham Forest

Pep Guardiola admitted he had been given a deserved yellow card after complaining to officials over a penalty claim for Erling Haaland.

In one of the rare moments in the game where he earned space, Haaland charged past Forest defender Joe Worrall into the box only to theatrically go down as the pair went for a bouncing ball. Referee Graham Scott decided there had not been enough contact for a penalty, to the fury of Guardiola.

City's manager first ran to the edge of the pitch, then turned his ire on the fourth official as he demanded to know why Haaland would go down in such a situation. Scott then came over to the touchline and booked Guardiola for his reaction.

It was a fair point for Guardiola to raise in asking why Haaland would fall if he was through on goal, but the evidence supported the officials as any contact was minimal that would not have caused such a fall. After the match, the City boss had no issues with his punishment.

"We don’t make many excuses - even though I could say a lot of things about what has happened this season," he said. "When the man is through against the keeper, why does he fall down?

"Why would Erling fall down when he’s one-against-one with the keeper. Maybe it would have been soft, maybe not, but that was why I was complaining to the fourth official.

"I wanted to know why Haaland would go down when he was through on goal - and afterwards I got a deserved yellow card."
