A banner was flown above Anfield prior to kick-off in a jibe to West Ham defender Kurt Zouma.
The centre-back came in for huge criticism after a video had emerged of the 27-year-old kicking his cat across the kitchen floor before later slapping the pet in the face.
It was claimed that Zouma’s brother, Yoan, filmed the incident on Snapchat inside the defender’s home before posting it a day later.
Zouma will not face an investigation by police, but the RSPCA have stated that they are investigating the incident, with Zouma's cats having been taken from him.

And a plane was flown over Liverpool's ground before kick-off, sending a message to the Frenchman in a brutal jibe.
The banner read 'Cats Lives Matter'.
Later in the game, Liverpool fans could be heard chanting 'a cat, a cat' at the West Ham defender, before one supporter was spotted with a giant inflatable cat in the Main Stand.
Zouma issued a statement apologising for his actions, where he expresses his remorse for the incident.
"I also want to say how deeply sorry I am to anyone who was upset by the video.
"I would like to assure everyone that our two cats are perfectly fine and healthy.
"They are loved and cherished by our entire family, and this behaviour was an isolated incident that will not happen again."
