What life is like on the Nottinghamshire road with houses worth millions

Have you ever wondered what life is like on the street where one of the most expensive houses in Nottinghamshire has been sold in recent months?

Recent data from the Land Registry has shown a home in Old Road, Ruddington, was the most expensive sold between October and December last year.

So we went to Old Road to find out what residents like most about the "secure" and "friendly" area.

Last year, in October 2021, a house on the street sold for £1,995,000.

By contrast, the least expensive property sold during the same period was a flat for £45,000 in Park View Court, on the city centre's border with Sneinton.

Jo Mckenzie-Small, who works in the property industry, has lived in Old Road for years.

She spoke about how Covid had brought her neighbours together - but admitted it was an "expensive" area.

She said: "We built a house at the top of the road but it's a nice community with long drives and gates. I love it around here, it feels like the country but it's quick to get to everywhere.

"I see people quite a lot because I walk my dog. Over Covid, people in the area made a WhatsApp group chat to just make sure that everyone in the area was okay."

Other pricey houses that sold last year include a house in Mapperley Plains where a property sold for £1.75m, a house in Wilford Lane, West Bridgford, which sold for £1.7m and a house in Beeston Fields Drive that sold for £1.25m.

Down the road, one person who wanted to remain anonymous, who has been living on the street with their family for six years, said they enjoy living in the area and that everyone is friendly.

They said: "It's good here, it's nice and quiet.

"Since I've lived here there have been quite a few people that have moved. The only thing I don't like is the shops - I have to go to Ruddington which is difficult to walk to. But there are good walking spots and friendly neighbours."

Councillor Jen Walker who represents Ruddington for Labour on Rushcliffe Borough Council, also complimented the village.

She said: "Ruddington is a wonderful place to call home.

"It's an active, friendly community with an eclectic monthly market and a historic high street. The Country Park is also a big attraction all year round.”
