What Kostas Tsimikas thinks of new Liverpool song as Champions League message sent

Kostas Tsimikas has reacted to his new chant from Liverpool supporters - as he vowed to keep making the most of his first-team opportunities.

Tsimikas was an impressive performer in providing assists for Ibrahima Konate and Roberto Firmino as the Reds drew 3-3 at home to Benfica on Wednesday night in their Champions League quarter-final second leg to win 6-4 on aggregate and set up a semi-final date with Spanish side Villarreal.

The left-back last month expressed his disappointment at not being afforded a personalised chant, prompting Reds fans into action with a song to the tune of ABBA's hit 'Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)'.

And asked about the new chant, Tsimikas said: "I'm very, very happy for that! I hear it almost every day. Hopefully they sing it in the pitch (stadium) one day! These things as a player give you extra motivation and for me it was a very, very special moment when I heard it the first time."

Of the game against Benfica, he added: "We wanted to win but we are happy we have got through. I'm very, very happy with my performance and for my two assists, the hard worked paid off. This gives me extra motivation to keep working hard and do exactly that, I always enjoy when I play for this family. We had a good performance but we had some bad moments in the defence, but at the end we got through.

"My biggest dream is to win the Champions League. It was one of my goals when I came here. I want it really, really much and will work hard with the boys to achieve this."

Tsimikas, who now was 21 appearances this season, has started four of Liverpool's 10 Champions League games and the last three FA Cup ties, and will be pressing Andy Robertson for the left-back slot in Saturday's semi-final against Manchester City.

"I'm looking forward (to the FA Cup semi-final), it's going to be a very, very tough game against a very, very tough opponent," said the Greece international, speaking to LFC TV. "But we still have some days to be prepared and focused for this game.

"It's always a pleasure when I play for this family, I always try to give my best when given the chance. I'm always there for this team and fight for everything, to do what we can do. In the times they give me the chance, I will be there and I will show exactly that. We saw on Wednesday that everybody in this team is ready for that challenge, we train really hard, and we saw every game no matter who plays we have the same goals and performances."
