What Josh Dobbs' Trade to Vikings Means for Fantasy Football

The Vikings have acquired quarterback Joshua Dobbs from the Cardinals in a deal that involves late-round draft picks. The move fills a void for Minnesota who lost Kirk Cousins to a torn Achilles in Week 8, and it eases the blow for fantasy fans (at least to some degree) of losing Cousins for the rest of the season.

Dobbs wasn’t putting up monster totals, but he averaged 15.6 points per game as the Cardinals' starter. He’s also third among quarterbacks in rushing yards, trailing only Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts. That’s big in the world of fantasy football.

Josh Dobbs was traded to the Vikings just hours before the NFL's trade deadline.

Dobbs isn’t anywhere near as good as Cousins as a passer, but he will make those who have Jordan Addison, T.J. Hockenson and eventually Justin Jefferson in fantasy leagues feel a bit better. After all, the alternatives at quarterback were rookie Jaren Hall and journeyman backup Nick Mullens. Hall might still get the start this week when the Vikings face the Falcons, however, so keep tabs on that situation.

The move to Minnesota is a good one for Dobbs, as their offense has far more talent and is more explosive than the one he left behind in Arizona, but he’s still mostly a No. 2 option or matchup-based starter. If you have him on your team, don’t cut him.

This move also means that Kyler Murray is very close to returning to action, and that’s good news for anyone who’s been stashing him on fantasy teams. In fact, he might be back this week (although reports suggest it’ll be Clayton Tune as the Cardinals' starter). If Murray is somehow still available in your league, go get him now before it’s too late.
