What Jesse Lingard did on pitch at full-time after Manchester United win vs Nottingham Forest

Jesse Lingard shared an exchange with Marcus Rashford and David de Gea after Manchester United's win against Nottingham Forest.

Lingard departed from United in the summer following the expiry of his contract and he signed for Nottingham Forest on a one-year contract, which surprised some, considering Steve Cooper's side had just been promoted to the top flight.

The 30-year-old has started 11 matches for Forest in the Premier League this season and he made his return to Old Trafford on Tuesday night in his side's 3-0 defeat against United, which saw goals from Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Fred.

Lingard was substituted off in the second half of the match and he received a warm reception from supporters when leaving the pitch, while he also shared words with Rashford and David de Gea after the full-time whistle.

Rashford and Lingard swapped shirts and De Gea hugged the academy graduate, who he spent 10 years playing with. Lingard seemed pleased with his reception at Old Trafford but he criticised how the club handled his exit leading up to the match.

“I don’t know why I wasn’t playing. I don’t know what the problem was, whether it was politics or whatever. I still haven’t got an answer to this day. I didn’t even ask.” Lingard told The Telegraph earlier this week.

"I’d rather that someone out of respect for me being there that long told me ‘this is why you’re not playing’, but I never got that. It was false promises. I was training hard and I was sharp, I was ready to play them games.

"When you’re working hard in training and don’t play at the end of it, it’s very frustrating."
