What is the Spotify Icebergify? How to create an iceberg that reflects your music tastes

Icebergify is the latest app that visualises your Spotify data

Icebergify is the latest way to visualise your Spotify data–but now you can see how popular or obscure your favourite artists are.

The app asks users “How deep does your Spotify iceberg go?” before letting them know just how mainstream or indie their music taste is.

Icebergify analyses the artists you listen to on Spotify and presents the data in an iceberg-style chart, with different levels reflecting how well-known the singers or bands are.

The most popular artists–think Taylor Swift and Harry Styles–are placed right at the tip of the iceberg.

The rest of the artists are then ranked in order of popularity, with the little-known artists placed below the iceberg, deep in the water.

How does Icebergify work?

Icebergify, created by 25-year-old Akshay Raj, determines how popular an artist is using Spotify data, such as their number of streams, likes, and followers.

The app uses data about users’ top 50 artists from the last month, last six months, and the last several years, which explains why users may see artists they haven’t listened to for a while on their chart.

How to create your own Icebergify

To create your own Icebergify, head to Icebergify.com. Press “create yours” and then authorise the app to look at your Spotify data by pressing “agree.”

You will then be presented with your own iceberg chart, which you can save to share on social media.

Some users may receive an error message as the website struggles to keep up with demand since the app went viral this week.

Icebergify’s creator says users should refresh the page until the iceberg appears, or clear their cookies and site data for icebergify.com and try again.

Earlier in June, another Spotify app went viral–the Spotify pie chart, which analyses your music taste and distils the genres you listen to the most and transforms it into a pie.
