What is one big thing that Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback Trevor Lawrence wants to accomplish during the 2025 season?
Staying healthy.
“It’s definitely challenging, looking at where I’m at and the improvements that I’ve made,” said Lawrence. “I do feel like I’ve gotten better every year. But the big piece of it is being healthy. Being the franchise quarterback, I have to be out there, I have to be on the field, I have to be available. So I think that’s difficult for me to not be able to do that.”
In Lawrence’s first two NFL seasons, he played in all 34 regular season games. In 2023, he would play in 16 of the 17 games, but noted that he dealt with injuries for much of the season.
Then, this past year, Lawrence played only 10 games and ended his season on injured reserve in order to get surgery on his shoulder, which he provided an update on as well.
“In really the last two seasons, that’s been a struggle for me,” said Lawrence about staying healthy. “Last year I only missed one game because of it, but still, I was dealing with a lot of injuries and that’s something in my career, until last year, I didn’t deal with really much. This year was tough, missing basically half the season because of injuries and having to watch.
“Definitely get a different perspective of everything when you’re not in the middle of it every day. So I think I’ve learned a lot. The main thing is I’ve just gotta be healthy, whether that’s getting stronger this offseason or limiting some of the hits when I’m out there.”
On the field, Lawrence said that he’s continued to improve each year that he’s been in the NFL. He noted needing to be more consistent, but but also highlighted some areas where he grew as well.
“I feel like this season when I was playing, I had a couple rough games,” Lawrence said. “I’ve got to be a little more consistent. I had two or three games where I didn’t feel like I played god enough for us to win.
“Beyond those games, I feel like I made a lot of improvements–consistency, throwing the ball downfield, putting us in a position to score. I think taking care of the ball was a big emphasis that I was doing a better job of this year–maybe until the very end, the last game or two that I played.”
As the quarterback, Lawrence’s play is, of course, can to play a pivotal role in determining the ceiling for the Jaguars’ offense. However, an improved running game will help take some of the burden off of the passing game.
In addition to that, hopefully, finding some needed long-term stability at head coach can provide Lawrence with the continuity of being in the same system and growing within it, rather than having to continually hit the reset button.
