What is the astrological new year 2024?

Spring is upon us and we can start looking forward to bluer skies, chirping birds, and buds on trees.

The new season also means the start of the astrological new year.

But what is it? Here's all you need to know.

What is the astrological new year?

The astrological new year starts when the sun moves into Aries in late March, during the spring equinox

As 2024 is a leap year and had an extra day in February, this year's astrological new year occurs on March 19, 2024, at 3.06am GMT, when the sun enters Aries.

It signifies a time of new beginnings and fresh starts.

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and marks the start of a new cycle for everyone, regardless of their sign. Astrologers say it offers renewed energy and opportunities. It's the perfect time to reflect on personal goals, set new directions, and work on self-improvement.

People may feel more empowered to pursue their goals and assert their individuality.

“[The astrological new year] is taking us out of that dark period—symbolically dark and physically dark—and bringing us into a moment where we can finally breathe easily again,” said Babs Cheung, astrologer, for Well and Good.

Many cultures and spiritual traditions mark the astrological new year with rituals, ceremonies, and celebrations. These may include practices such as meditation, setting intentions, or participating in festive gatherings.
