What is the big item on the Jacksonville Jaguars offseason to-do list?
Big changes have already come to Jacksonville. Liam Coen has taken over as the head coach, and the search for the team’s next general manager has begun.
But once the coaching staff and front office situation is settled, what’s next for the Jaguars roster-wise?
Kevin Patra of NFL.com recently selected the one offseason move that each team should make. For the Jaguars, he selected adding a playmaking cornerback to the mix.
“The Jags defense is so riddled with holes a block of Swiss cheese is jealous,” Patra wrote. “Jacksonville is especially holey on the back end. Jacksonville needs to inject a playmaker into the secondary. Adding a sticky corner is paramount. Finding one in free agency and another in the draft would be even better.”
The Jaguars’ secondary as a whole was picked on last season. That unit would finish the regular season ranked 24th in completion rate, along with finishing in the bottom three in yards per pass attempt, interceptions, and passer rating.
Returning at cornerback for the Jaguars in 2025 is Tyson Campbell and Jarrian Jones at the nickel. However, the second boundary spot opposite of Campbell is wide open.
As Patra also noted, Ronald Darby was benched last season and Montaric Brown isn’t a long-term answer for Jacksonville.
A popular selection for the Jaguars in mock drafts at pick No. 5 is Michigan cornerback Will Johnson. When it comes to free agency, some of the top players available at cornerback include DJ Reed, Charvarius Ward, Rasul Douglas, and Carlton Davis–a player ESPN mentioned as someone who could be on the Jaguars’ radar.
