National Tea Day is the perfect occasion to learn how to make the perfect brew.
This year’s celebration will also mark the first National Tea Day event since the Queen’s passing and, with the day being celebrated on what was her birthday, this year, the nation is encouraged to “raise a cuppa” together.
Here’s everything you need to know.
What is National Tea Day?
National Tea Day is observed in the United Kingdom every year to celebrate the drinking of tea.
It is observed nationwide with special events and fundraising activities organised at tea rooms, hotels, pubs, and cafés.
The vision is to inspire special moments with tea. Working with a variety of partner companies throughout the year, the people behind National tea Day want to bring tea drinkers, tea servers, and the entire tea industry together.
When is National Tea Day?
National Tea Day takes place on Friday, April 21.
Founded in 2016, the date of April 21 was chosen because it was also Queen Elizabeth’s birthday.
How to make the perfect cup of tea
To keep the oxygen level high, only boil the water once after giving it a little time to aerate. Water's oxygen contributes to flavour.
1.
Place a tea bag in your mug, add boiling water, and swirl just a little.
2.
Tea needs time to unlock all its flavour, so give it four to five minutes to brew.
3.
Squish the teabag against the mug's side before removing it. Only once, though, because it will taste bitter if you really crush it.
4.
The final step is to customise your brew — add milk, sugar, honey, lemon, or nothing at all.
