Liz Truss is now the UK’s third female Prime Ministerand the new leader of the Conservative Party, having won the race against Rishi Sunak.

The seasoned politician is settling into her new role by announcing that domestic energy bills will be frozen at £2,500 as part of a package to ease the cost-of-living crisis.

Understandably, her new job, and the lifestyle that comes with it, will lead to substantial changes in Ms Truss’s bank account.

What is Liz Truss’s net worth and background?

After graduating from Oxford University’s Merton College in 1996, Liz Truss started working at Shell while she qualified as an accountant.

In 2000, she joined Cable & Wireless, eventually becoming their economic director, before leaving in 2005.

That’s when she moved into politics. However, after losing two elections, she joined Reform as a full-time deputy director in 2008.

Later, in 2010, she became the MP for her constituency, South West Norfolk.

Since then, she has taken on a number of impressive job titles within the Government, including Minister for Women and Equalities, and Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs.

According to Money Transfers, Liz Truss is worth £8.4 million.

While her career is likely to be responsible for a significant portion of the new Prime Minister’s wealth, the 47-year-old politician also benefits from a property portfolio.

Ms Truss owns a three-bedroom detached house in Thetford, Norfolk, and a home in Greenwich, south-east London.

Her predecessor, Boris Johnson, earned an annual salary of £164,080.

The total amount was made up of two salary streams. He made £79,936 for being the Prime Minister and £84,144 for being an MP.
