A new trend emerges from TikTok almost every day, but one that’s began gaining traction during lockdown is cottagecore.
The aesthetic is loved by social media stars and celebrities like Millie Bobby Brown.
Now, even Taylor Swift appears to have channelled the style - embracing home comforts and the countryside in her new album, Folklore, written during lockdown.
But what exactly is it? Here’s what you need to know:
What is cottagecore?
Essentially a romanticised idea of living in the countryside, cottagecore is a trend that centres around wearing cosy jumpers, floral dresses, flowers in your hair, along with knitting, crochet, baking and more.
In a viral TikTok video by @cncealingflwrs, she says: “Put a finger down if you know how to knit, sew, or crochet. Put a finger down if you own more than five sweaters,” she continues. “Put a finger down if you own more than three flower-printed clothing items... Have flowers or dried flowers around your room…Or love the aesthetic of fungi and mushrooms.”
You get the gist.
Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown has very much been embracing the aesthetic on her Instagram page,
Meanwhile singer Halsey shared a picture of herself on Twitter in a strapless polka dot top, and followed it up by writing: “not to be a cottagecore queer on the TL but like...I am.”
And fans are convinced the trend has inspired Taylor Swift's new look, which is all billowing skirts and oversized jumpers..
