Manchester City midfielder Rodri has claimed that he was told by Ilkay Gundogan that Riyad Mahrez should take the penalty because he is the normal taker.
City's Spaniard was awarded the man of the match award on Sunday as he helped spearhead a comfortable victory over the West Midlands side. Rodri scored the opener in the early stages of the match as he powered home a corner which Emi Martinez could not keep out.
Gundogan made it two five minutes before the break as he tapped home an Erling Haaland cross. City had the chance to make it three when Jack Grealish was fouled in the area by Jacob Ramsey.

There appeared to be an argument over who would take the penalty with Rodri stating his claim but Gundogan decided Mahrez should be given the ball instead. Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, City's defensive midfielder explained what was said before the third goal of the match.
"It was clear that the captain decides and I have to accept the decision," he explained. "He [Gundogan] just said that Riyad is the normal shooter.
"I just asked because I was filled with confidence in that moment and I understand that we spoke before the game about what would happen so I accept that." Haaland was also in the discussion regarding the penalty but Rodri added that the final decision is with Pep Guardiola.
"I don't know [if Haaland should have had the chance to take it]," Rodri explained. "It is down to the coach, who decides before the game.
"We have good shooters and even though Riyad had bad luck with penalties last season it is something we have to let go because he can make the difference, sometimes." City's victory leaves them three points behind Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.
