‘What I look up to’ - Liverpool star Roberto Firmino named as inspiration

Liverpool star Roberto Firmino is inspiration for Shrewsbury striker Ryan Bowman, who says he 'looks up' to the Brazilian.

Firmino was on the scoresheet for the Reds in the 2-0 Premier League win over Arsenal midweek. It was his first goal since the first leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie against Inter Milan back in February.

It isn't Firmino's most prolific season in front of goal, as he's suffered a handful of injury setbacks, but Bowman described the 30-year-old's all-round game as 'unbelievable' and says it's what he aspires to achieve.

“Of course [we have responsibility to score], you’re a striker, that’s what you get brought to football clubs to do, to score goals,” he told the Shropshire Star. “But a lot of strikers nowadays, even in the top leagues, it’s not just about goals."

“For me Firmino is the biggest one for that, his all-round game is unbelievable and he doesn’t score as many goals as [Sadio] Mane and [Mohamed] Salah.

“But the reason Mane and Salah score a lot of goals is because of what Firmino’s job is. Obviously I’m not comparing myself anywhere near to him, but that’s what I look up to."

Bowman's view is shared by manager Jurgen Klopp, as the Liverpool boss has previously shed light on the brilliance of Firmino, even when he's not scoring.

Klopp told a press conference last season: "Scoring was always important for Bobby but he's a complete footballer.

"Football is like an orchestra and if you have different people for instruments, some are louder, but all are important for the rhythm. Bobby can play without [goals] as well."
