What has Rupert Grint been doing since Harry Potter — and does he still act?

Rupert Grint first rose to fame when he was cast as the iconic Harry Potter character Ron Weasley at the age of just 11.

The actor has now been in the public eye for decades, and while he's best known as the loveable and loyal sidekick to the Boy Who Lived, Weasley is now all grown up.

Grint has turned 34 today (August 24) and in the year's since the wizarding franchise came to an end the actor has been thriving.

From his adorable family life, to a diverse range of new acting roles, and even some more peculiar endeavours, Grint has certainly been keeping busy.

Here's what he's been up to since Harry Potter came to an end.

What did Rupert Grint do after Harry Potter?

Before shooting to fame as a child actor, Rupert Grint had another career ambition and as filming for the Harry Potter franchise wrapped up, he decided to give it a go, buying himself an ice cream van.

In 2014, Grint revealed to the Daily Mail that it had been a childhood dream, he said: "My first ambition was to become an ice-cream man, which is why I bought the Bedford van."

He added: "The van often comes in useful. I drove it up to the set on the last day of filming on Harry Potter. The cast and crew were having a barbecue and I supplied the lollies and ice creams."

Rupert would drive around the local villages to give out free ice creams from his beloved van.

But his ice cream van endeavour isn't the only thing that Grint has been up to since Potter.

The actor has also been busy working on his TV career and experiencing fatherhood for the first time.

After taking a year off from acting when Harry Potter ended, Rupert decided to give it a go again.

At first, he was offered a lot of material similar to his sidekick role in the wizarding franchise, but the actor held off for some more edgy and serious roles.

His return to acting post-Potter saw him star in the World War Two film Into the Night in 2012, and in 2013 he made his stage debut in a revival of Jez Butterworth’s play Mojo.

Since then, he's also had an active TV career, starring in the sitcoms Sick Note and Snatch.

Currently, Grint is playing Julian Pearce in the Apple TV+ psychological thriller, Servant, which has been renewed for a fourth season.

He's also set to star in Netflix's upcoming anthology series, Guilermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities, and 2023 thriller Knock at the Cabin.

Rupert Grint's family life

As well as his successful career, Grint has had success in his personal life too.

In 2011 he started dating actress Georgia Groome, who's best known for her iconic role in Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging.

The pair have a low-key relationship but have now been together for over a decade and in 2020 they welcomed their first child together, daughter Wednesday G Grint.

Speaking to Glamour about his relationship with Georgia, Rupert said: "It’s a very natural thing - we’re just best friends,

"We’re kind of the same person; we think the same way. That’s always made it work - that’s why it’s lasted. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what it is, but it works and it’s great."

Earlier this year, the actor also shared some stories about his family life on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

He revealed that "the f-word came pretty quickly" for his two-year-old daughter, explaining: "She spends a lot of time in my dressing room when I’m kind of doing my lines for [ Servant ], and my character says the f-word a lot."

“Now she just says it whenever she’s excited. We were in the toy store today and she was just walking around, dropping it.”
