Flowers have been laid at the gates of Buckingham Palace as a tribute to the late monarch following the death of Queen Elizabeth II at Balmoral on Thursday, September 8.
The Queen's death brought an end to her 70-year reign, the longest in British history, having ascended the throne following the death of her father, King George VI, on February 6, 1952. People have travelled from all over the country today to pay their respects and give tribute to The Queen at the royal residence.
Many left handwritten messages addressed to 'Your Majesty' and 'Our Queen' thanking her for her service to the country throughout her years on the throne. Bouquets are being sold by charity staff in the park after several nearby shops having sold out due to a high demand in the area.

Buckingham Palace have asked well-wishers to redirect floral tributes to Green Park and Hyde Park on both social media and with a sign outside of the front gates.
In an announcement on Friday, September 9, the Palace released a statement addressing floral tributes which read: “At Buckingham Palace members of the public will be guided to lay floral tributes at dedicated sites in The Green Park or Hyde Park. Flowers left outside Buckingham Palace will be moved to The Green Park Floral Tribute Garden by the Royal Parks.”
The sign, placed outside the front gates, reads: “Floral tributes in this area will be removed after 12 hours and in the tribute area of Green Park.”
At Windsor Castle, floral tributes may be left at Cambridge Gate on the Long Walk. The flowers will be brought inside the castle every evening and placed on the Castle Chapter grass on the south side of St George’s Chapel and Cambridge Drive.
At Sandringham, members of the public are being asked to leave tributes at the Norwich Gates.
Meanwhile, at Balmoral Castle, floral tributes can be left at the main gate.
