What happens in the Thor: Love and Thunder teaser trailer and when is it out in cinemas?

Chris Hemsworth will soon be returning to his most famous Marvel role as superhero Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder. Now fans have got their first look at the eagerly-anticipated film.

The new instalment is a sequel to the 2017 film Thor: Ragnarok and will be directed by Taika Waititi, who has previously directed episodes of The Mandalorian, The Inbetweeners and Flight of The Conchords, as well as the previous Thor film. In an interview with the podcast The Discourse, the director said the “energy and intention” were the same as when he was directing the last Thor film.

In the new trailer, we see Thor (at least initially) living a life of relative tranquility, saying “these hands were once used for battle, now they are but humble tools for peace”, and seemingly going on a voyage of self-discovery. He goes on to say “my superhero-ing days are over”, appearing costume-less, in relatively normal attire. How long that peace will last is yet to be seen, as the IMDB synopsis for the film tells us that “Thor reunites with Valkyrie, Korg and his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster to fight the threat of Gorr, The God Butcher”.

“Not every god has a plan” states the trailer’s tag line. Chris Pratt and Tessa Thompson are also spotted in the trailer, along with our first look at Natalie Portman as Lady Thor.

Alongside direction and writing duties, Waititi will lend his voice to the character of Korg. The IMDB cast list includes some other huge names, either starring directly in the film or lending their voices to characters, including Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Matt Damon, Vin Diesel, Russell Crowe, Melissa McCarthy, Sam Neill, Dave Bautista and many more.

When is Thor: Love and Thunder out in cinemas?

The film has been delayed multiple times due to the pandemic but is currently scheduled to be released on July 8, 2022.
