What happened to Ben Chilwell and Reece James during FIFA Club World Cup trophy parade

Chelsea fans got their first glimpse of the FIFA Club World Cup prior to Lille kick off on Tuesday night and something unexpected happened as players were parading the trophy around the pitch.

It's been nearly two weeks now since history was made in Abu Dhabi but the celebrations for the Blues faithful who didn't travel out to the Middle East started last night as a trio of players injured to face the current Ligue 1 Champions had another job on their hands to contend with.

All of Ben Chilwell, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James were the chosen three whilst their communards were getting ready to do battle with their comrades preparing for battle with Jocelyn Gourvennec's side.

"Azpi (Cesar Azpilicueta) looks much better than Callum (Hudson-Odoi). Let's start with these two. Callum did not train yesterday, Azpi trained and has no reaction, so if it stays like this, which it seems to be, then he's available for tomorrow," Thomas Tuchel said in his pre-match press conference.

"Mason (Mount) did a very good individual session, I think he will try to come back to team training today. He was out maybe a little bit too long to start. Perhaps he is involved in the squad, but he has not trained with the team yet.

And Reece (James) is still out, and Chilly (Ben Chilwell) out.

Eventually the Blues came out 2-0 winners courtesy of goals in each half respectively from Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic.

Alongside the big Romelu Lukaku debate that got every fan and pundit alike talking prior and after kick off, there was another moment that slightly went under the radar due to what happened to the 28-year-old and his controversial admission from the starting eleven.

But without further ado, as the trio of players were greeting the fans with the Club World Cup trophy held in the right hand of the left-back, no one could have expected what happened next.

As all three of the players approached the centre of the pitch, it seems as though the ground staff hadn't properly turned the sprinklers off and as a result, the trio were soaked as Chilwell tried to duck whilst Hudson-Odoi and James tried to sprint away quickly before they became officially drenched.

Nonetheless, despite how wet all three were after the incident, it was greeted with ironic cheers from the crowd and smiles from each individual involved.

Here's some of the best reaction on social media to this incident.

@faye_maghfory said: 'That’s absolute madness!.'

@SarahJayne_1980 admitted: 'That made me laugh. They took it in good humour too.'

@owenjnrpapi joked: 'Parading another trophy casually arsenal would have called a trophy bus in the streets of London for an FA cup trophy.'

@MinOthman finally summarised: 'What a moment.'
