What happened last time Leeds United faced Frank Lampard in his first home league game

Leeds United face Everton on Saturday in what is Frank Lampard's first home league fixture as manager of the Toffees.

This is not the first time Lampard has faced Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds United in his first home league fixture as manager of a club, as his Derby side hosted Leeds the first time he managed a fixture at Pride Park in the Championship.

Leeds will be hoping for a repeat of what happened that day, as Bielsa's side continued from where they had left off with an opening day 3-1 victory against the bookie's favourites for the division, Stoke City, by blowing Lampard's Derby away 4-1.

On a glorious August afternoon, Leeds came flying out of the traps and played with an intensity that seemed to totally catch Derby off guard, allowing Mateusz Klich to capitalise and open the scoring in the fifth minute of the match.

Samu Saiz was at his unplayable best on the day and the Spaniard carried the ball through midfield, before passing inside to Pablo Hernandez, who laid the ball on to Klich who curled into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Leeds were then surprisingly pegged back shortly after, as Tom Lawrence's powerful free-kick went through Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

However, Leeds were not to be denied on this day and only nine minutes after Derby had equalised, the Whites took the lead once again. This time it was Kemar Roofe with the goal as the striker drifted in between Derby's centre backs before rising to plant a header back across goal and into the corner after Ezgjan Alioski's cross.

This time, Leeds were not going to let their advantage slip and it was more just a matter of how many they'd win by.

Saiz continued carrying the ball through the centre of the pitch with abandon and Joe Ledley and Richard Keogh each picked up yellow cards for dragging him back when he looked like getting a clean run at the Derby defence.

Roofe then made it 3-1 to Bielsa's side on the hour mark after Kalvin Phillips won the ball high up the pitch. Klich quickly moved it on to Roofe, who took the ball on the turn and showed nimble footwork in the area before thrashing it into the top corner with his left foot.

Just four minutes later it was four. Liam Cooper played a free-kick from halfway deep into the Derby box and Hernandez somehow kept it in play on the touchline, volleying a cross back into the box. Alioski arrived on the penalty spot to head it into the top corner, with Scott Carson unable to adjust and keep it out.

Leeds then cruised to their victory, even managing to give a competitive debut to Jamie Shackleton as they saw out a comfortable away victory and left Lampard looking shell-shocked on the touchline.

Whites fans will hope to see a similar sight this weekend as whilst Leeds have found their second season back in the Premier League to be a difficult one, they are four points ahead of Everton, who sit 16th in the division. The Toffees form has been abjectand they have just come off the back of a very disappointing 3-1 defeat to Newcastle United at St James' Park.

If Leeds can start as they started at Pride Park in 2018, it's difficult to imagine Everton finding a response to that and Leeds can spoil Lampard's day once again.
