What happened between Martin Odegaard and Granit Xhaka after Arsenal's late winner vs Wolves

Emotions were running high during a roller-coaster night for Arsenal in the Premier League top-four race.

Heading into the game at the Emirates Stadium there was already a bit of an edge to it following Ruben Neves' criticism of the Gunners players for what he perceived as over-exuberant celebrations following the reverse meeting between the two sides earlier in the month.

Furthermore, Arsenal knew that completing the double over Wolves would be enough to leapfrog West Ham United in fifth and move to within a point of fourth-placed Manchester United.

They left it late, but the north London outfit managed to complete the mission.

Having fallen behind as early as the 10th minute when Hwang Hee-chan capitalised on Gabriel Magalhaes' under-hit backpass to roll the ball into an empty net, Arsenal had a mountain to climb.

Not only were the Gunners attempting to become the first side to come from behind to beat Wolves since 2019, but they were also aiming to win a game under Mikel Arteta after trailing at half-time for the very first time.

Thanks to Nicolas Pepe's stunning turn and finish in the 82nd minute, Arsenal were halfway to their target.

And in the fifth minute of injury time, the comeback was complete and Alexandre Lacazette was at the heart of things as his effort was turned into his own net by Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa.

Now, whilst the Frenchman would have preferred the keeper to have not been credited with an own goal as that would have ended his long scoring drought, he celebrated like he'd scored the winner to crown Arsenal Premier League champions.

Of course, the reality is that it was an important goal at a crucial time and the Gunners remain in control of their own destiny with regards to the top-four race.

Such was the impact of the late winner that it affected midfield pair Martin Odegaard and Granit Xhaka.

As shown via Arsenal Twitter, the playmaker fell to the ground as Lacazette went off to celebrate in another direction and he was joined by Xhaka who did a knee slide before quickly getting to his feet to join the rest of the squad.

It's now three straight Premier League wins for Arsenal and they are just a point off Man United in fourth having played two games fewer.

However, with Liverpool facing Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday afternoon, the Gunners aren't in action this weekend so will have three games in hand on the Red Devils by the time they face Watford on March 6.

With that said, Arteta's side can perhaps aim higher than fourth.

As things stand, the Gunners trail third-placed Chelsea by five points and have played one game fewer. Not to mention the London rivals still have to lock horns at Stamford Bridge after the fixture that was supposed to have taken place earlier in the month was postponed due to the Blues being in Club World Cup action.

So after moving one step closer to being back in Europe next season by beating Wolves, that late winner could prove to be even more important at the end of the season.
