What Graham Potter told Armando Broja to do to earn Chelsea start vs Brentford amid striker plan

Armando Broja has revealed what Graham Potter told him to do to earn a first start for Chelsea vs Brentford. The 21-year-old striker has impressed in cameo performances off the bench this season following a galvanising season-long loan at Southampton last term.

The Cobham graduate has featured seven times for the Blues this season, directly contributing towards one goal. Broja, who has recently penned a new deal at Stamford Bridge that keeps him at the club until 2028, has offered the west Londoners a fresh alternative to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Speaking to the in-house club media team, the Albania international revealed exactly what Potter told him to do in order to earn his place in the starting XI versus Thomas Frank's side. Broja detailed his conversation with the 47-year-old and the head coach's personable approach with the players.

"[Potter] said to me the more I could keep working hard in training, learning from the other players, the more opportunities I would get," the striker explained. "He tries to keep you ambitious and hungry.

"He's spoken to all the players individually and got to know us, seen how we think about things and seen how the person is their background. Any time you need help, he's there to help you, or his coaching staff are there to help you.

"He wants to develop all the players and help out everyone. It's been really good to have him here, to talk to him. It's been a really good vibe, and we're doing really well at the moment, so we just want to keep that going."

There's a degree of pressure on Broja to prove to Potter that he made the right decision to entrust him with a start. Chelsea is said to be in the market for a striker in January, according to French outlet Jeunes Footeux.

And, while that's somewhat normal considering that Aubameyang is entering the final years of his career, the Albanian will want to do everything in his power to staple a place in the Blues' starting XI for years to come.
