What Gabriel Martinelli did to anger Cristian Romero in Arsenal's win vs Tottenham

Arsenal continued their incredible run in the Premier League this season with a comfortable 2-0 victory over north London rivals Tottenham. The victory stretches the Gunners' lead at the top of the table to eight points following Manchester City’s defeat at Manchester United yesterday.

The three points never looked in doubt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with Antonio Conte's side struggling to cope with Arsenal quality across the pitch. Martin Odegaard continued his impressive form with a brilliant effort outside the penalty area after Hugo Lloris' howler gifted the Gunners the lead.

Victory at the home of their nearest rivals wipes the horrific memory of the 2-0 defeat in May, a defeat that subsequently ended the Gunners' Champions League hopes, whilst also shedding further proof on the upwards trajectory the club have endured this term.

As comes with every local derby, frustrations often boiled over in certain instances with referee Craig Pawson on hand to show a number of yellow cards throughout the contest. Certain Tottenham players struggled to keep their cool and Cristian Romero could be deemed lucky to not be sent off.

The World Cup winner was booked in the 35th minute after catching Gabriel Martinelli with a late challenge and escaped a second yellow card in the second half for a careless challenge on Granit Xhaka. However, as the game trembled towards its conclusion, Martinelli seemed to anger Romero with a sight of showboating.

As the ball was switched from right to left from a quick free-kick, the Brazilian found himself with acres of space to take the ball down. Instead of taking the normal route with his control, Martinelli opted to turn around and stop the ball with his back before offloading possession to one of his team-mates.

His action did not go down well with Romero and was seen running towards Martinelli followed by a short exchange between the two South Americans. Sky Sports commentator Gary Neville picked up on the incident, claiming Romero was going to "kill" Martinelli after the Brazilian's showboat.
