What former Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen did vs France after Kylian Mbappe goal

Former Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen was called up for Denmark's World Cup squad and has played a crucial role in their match against France.

Christensen spent nine years at Stamford Bridge after signing from Danish side Brondby IF on a free transfer back in 2013. The Denmark international won the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and the FA Cup during his time with the Blues.

The 26-year-old departed Stamford Bridge at the end of last season after refusing to sign a new contract, signing for Spanish giants Barcelona on a free transfer in the summer. Christensen's departure left a gaping hole in the Blues' defence after fan-favourite Antonio Rudiger followed him out of the door to join Real Madrid, resulting in Chelsea signing Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly as their replacements.

Christensen played a crucial role in helping Denmark reach the Euro 2020 semi-finals and continued his impressive form for his country at major tournaments by keeping a clean sheet in the Dane's World Cup opener against Tunisia. The ex-Chelsea defender could not stop Kylian Mbappe from opening the scoring in their match against France this evening, but popped up with a vital equaliser in the second half.

Manchester United star Christian Eriksen whipped a dangerous corner into the penalty box which was flicked on by Joachin Andersen. Christensen darted into the area and powered a header towards Hugo Lloris' goal with the ball flying into the back of the net to make it 1-1.

Unfortunately for Christensen it looks as though Denmark could fail to qualify out of Group D after Mbappe added a second goal for France with just four minutes of normal time to play. The Danes will need to beat Australia in their final Group D fixture to secure qualification into the World Cup round of 16 stage.
