What Erik ten Hag told Manchester United players after beating Tottenham

Erik ten Hag expressed how enjoyable it was to watch Manchester United in his debrief with the players after their 2-0 victory over Tottenham.

Ten Hag presided over United's finest performance of the season on Wednesday night at Old Trafford, where goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes secured a richly-deserved victory against the Premier League's third-placed side.

United peppered Hugo Lloris' goal with 28 shots to move to within one point of the top four ahead of travelling to fourth-placed Chelsea on Saturday.

"I'm pleased with the team, clear," Ten Hag said. "I think it was the best team performance so far this season, so you see today we are developing.

"You see in the last weeks the way we want to play, we want to get better every time on the pitch. Of course, it's not every day, but today against this Spurs, a really magnificent team so far this season, it's really difficult to play them.

"But I said to the lads in the dressing room it was really enjoyable to watch them.

"It will go up and down (the form). I am realistic, it will not only go in this way but we show we can achieve a quite good level and that is based on a certain philosophy.

"It is based on certain rules and principles, so we have to live by these rules and principles and if we do that we can achieve a good level and the best performance.

"For me, good is not good enough, we have to do better but I know also we have to do better but there will be setbacks and you have to deal with it.

"Also, if you don't play that well you have to win, that's a base for a successful team, you need a good platform and that is always defensive."
